For his 2nd solo project, Steve taps into his jazz, gospel, urban and blues roots which will surely have your head rocking and foot tapping all day. Trombonist Steve Baxter has employed the talents of no less than 29 top-shelf musicians for this formidable package on Slubba Bub Records. 'Sugar on the Bone' is a long-awaited collaboration led by Steve that gives insight into a world of music that not many other players experience. He knows the music business as few do - working various sides of the industry and understanding the commercial hook that makes today's music fans move their feet and clap their hands.
His trombone slides through a myriad of rhythms and studio influenced arrangements with tracks that pulsate, grind, and push the groove just where we want it. Plus, one hears the love and appreciation of those who have paved the way in the world of commercial jazz: The Crusaders and Joe Sample come to mind and the appearances of jazz legends like Wilton Felder and vocalist Randy Crawford only serve to heighten this product's appeal. Simply stated, Steve et al have used what has worked in the past in a re-vitalized fashion for today's market.
'Sugar on the Bone' is sure to get you up on your feet and sliding across the dance floor. Trombone masters are far and few between in this music world but Steve Baxter has slid into an envious ranking with this great assemblage of talent and danceable tracks. 'Sugar on the Bone' is happening!
